Dental

The Mobile Dental Unit is staffed by a RFDS principal dentist, a dentist, and 3 dental assistants who provide a range of dental services at no cost to communities in rural and remote Queensland. This service not only addresses the immediate need for dental care within these communities, but also to improve overall health in these regions.

Full time members of the team work 2 weeks on, 1 week off and part time positions are 2 weeks on, 4 weeks off.

Dentists: Our Dentists are required to be registered with AHPRA, have a minimum of three year’s experience, extra-oral and intra-oral QH Radiography Licence and have proven clinical skills in managing difficult and a broad range oral health issues. Our Dentists are required to be credentialed by the RFDS before they can start their employment.

Dental Assistants: Our Dental Assistants are required to hold a Certificate III in dental assisting and/or three years’ experience in assisting a general dentist. They will need to have the ability to operate effectively and positively in a remote area with challenging operational situations.

To ensure the RFDS provides safe and high-quality care to our patients, we have developed a very robust credentialing process. This system ensures that we employ Clinicians who are suitably qualified to practice safely and competently, often working in rural and remote settings. We ensure that all Clinicians who have patient contact are credentialed before they commence work.

The credentialing process is online via CGOV. Candidates will be asked to fill out a comprehensive online form including information around work experience, education information, and continuing professional development. Evidence of qualifications will need to be provided in the form of original certified copies of qualifications.

The Flying Doctor acknowledges the support of the QCoal Group, QCoal Foundation and the Australian Government in establishing the dental service in 2013.
